The things I write are the things I know,
It might be about a plant an animal or how to sew,
I might write down my dreams but in a ryhme,
I could write down a poem any time.
I might write a poem in the middle of the night,
Just with a flicker of cande light,
I might write a poem when the sun does rise,
Now guess when I wrote this you might get a surprise.

Plants need a lot of different substances to produce new growth. But if these requirements are not achieved there can be serious consequences.
Interesting facts: Gases are just one of all the different kinds of substances that effect plant growth, the problem can be very serious because gases can limit the intake of carbon dioxide that plants breathe. Another problem is too much water: when plants have too much water their roots will rot and consequently the plant will not be able to get enough carbon dioxide from the soil.
Too much water: Some plants get too much water. When this happens their young leaves will turn brown. Plants won’t have any new growth if they are given too much water. Plants will look wilted when they drink too much water. Plants with too much water are at risk of having algae in the soil around them.
Light and temperature: Two of the substances that effect plant growth are light and temperature. Problems with too little light are stems that are stretched, leaves that are yellow and even lower leaves that go curly then dry up. Extreme temperatures can be harmful because plants can get a sharp shock which can effect the normal growth of a plant. Plants need blue light which they can receive from the sun outside. Plants make their own food through a process called photosynthesis.
Frost and wind: The effects of frost and wind on plants can be very harsh. The frost can make plants flower late or not even flower at all. Some plants have special hormones to stop them from freezing. When plants are frosted they can get dead tips on their leaves. The wind can tug plants roots and sometimes even pull plants out.
The summary: These are just some of the problems and special things that plants have. I hope you have learnt something new.
Glossary: Consequently: something that happens as a result of an action.
Photosynthesis: a process which helps plants to make food.
Hormones: product of living cells carried by blood to other cells.
